Aventine Hill

Legend says that this was the hill that Remus was living on. It was also where Remus looked for the birds that would let him build a city and name it after him. This was where Romulus lied so he could build the city and have it named after him. This was where the lower class would also live during the finding of Rome.

Explanation/ Height Of Rome: The Aventine Hill is one of the seven hills of Rome. It consists actually of two peaks. The first peak is close to the Tiber and the second, the minor Aventine (and a part of it belonging to the 12th Region of Rome) is more south. This was the hill that Remus lived on. He was on this hill when he was looking for the birds. Under the empire, it became residential King Servius let the people build a temple of Diana which became a sanctuary of the Latins. Another old religious building was there as well called the temple of Minerva. Also to the Baths of Decius, which are the most impressive, one of Emperor Trajan’s friends let build private baths, the Baths of Sura.

Modern History: During the Fascist period, many deputies of the opposition retired on this hill after the murder of Giacomo Matteotti (the leader), here ending the "Aventine Secession.” The hill is now an elegant residential part of Rome with a ton of architectural interest. But even more modern is that the skull of St. Valentine is on this hill. Also it has the most sophisticated/ impressive artwork and structures in the world.

Hercules and Cacus

1. Livy- Lacks characteristics of Hercules and Cacus. Adds in part of the story of Romulus and Remus. Only says Hercules lost some cattle found them with Cacus and killed him. Lacks detail and length of what happened to Hercules and Cacus. Adds to much stuff about Romulis aand Remus.

Vergil- Tells how Hercules killed Cacus by cutting his throat and the other two tell he killed him with a club. He goes into detail about how Hercules kills Caus by saying " Hercules seized him in a knot like clasp, and, clinging, choked him. The eyes squeezed, and the throat drained of blood." Has a huge amount of detail about Cacus and Hercules. Also has a huge amount of detail of the setting and what happened between them. A lot longer than any of the other stories.

Ovid- Starts with Hercules driving his cattle. Goes into detail of what happened with both Cacus and Hercues when Caucus stole his cattle. Talks about how Evander's mother is a goddess, and her name is January. Says Hercules killed him with a three knotted club.

In Vergil, He explains how Hercules killed Cacus by slicing his throat unlike were in Livy were he just says that Hercules kills Cacus. He also talks about the other two men that he kills. In Ovid, Talks more about the cattle of Hercules than the other two stories. He alos does not talk about Hercules killing Cacus.
